My brother

Cancer....the word itself took on a new meaning for me this week. You hear about people with cancer all the time. I've prayed for many people with cancer before. You hear about people who have died of cancer. You hear about foods that cause cancer and to always wear sunscreen so as not to get skin cancer. I hear it all the time, but yesterday when I found out my brother has cancer in his throat it took on a completely new meaning! Two weeks from today my brother, Doug, will go in for surgery to remove the cancer and then have 7 weeks of radiation.
Those that know me know about my brother and his family, but for those that read this blog, but don't know my family let me give you a brief summary of my brother's life.

His first son died of a heart defect, his second son was born with a completely different heart defect, he's a preacher and has been in some good churches and some not so good ones, he moved his family to Florida a few years ago, he got out of the ministry for awhile, his wife left him and then divorced him, his youngest daughter and son have diabetes, he's had credit issues, he's back in the ministry, and now he has cancer.

My sister compared him to JOB of the Bible, my mom called him," a man after God's own heart", I think he's one of the most amazing teaching pastors I've ever heard. Can I say enough good about him....no. I mean he's not perfect, I've seen his anger, his frustration, his sin, BUT we've all done that. How many of use through EVERY trial that God throws at us quote scripture, and just continue to give God the praise for EVERYTHING - good and bad? I know I don't, but I look at my brother and say WOW.

Please pray for Doug Oliver and his 4 kids - Caleb, Rachel, Rebekah, and Josiah.

Oh Anne - I am really sorry to hear of what's going on with your brother. It's always a difficulty to climb a hurdle and find a way to the top. God's plan can be impossible to see at times. Your family (you guys too) are in our thoughts and prayers.
