Shoeboxes

One of my favorite traditions this time of year is being part of Operation Christmas Child. If you don't know about this ministry you should visit http://www.samaritanspurse.org/ . I started doing this the first year I taught in Georgia. At that time the students I had helped by bringing items, wrapping the shoe boxes and packing them. Now each year our Awana club packs the shoeboxes and I get them to Houston and from there they go to North Carolina and then all over the world. Last year Samaritans Purse sent out 7.4 million shoeboxes!
Last year I started letting Kristin pack her own box. She has so much fun picking out the items for the box and putting them together. This year I let Olivia do a box too. She didn't really like the idea that the box wasn't for her. She did ok though once we got to Houston and she got to put her box with all the others. I read the book Miracle in a Shoebox by Franklin Graham each year so it helps them understand just exactly what they are doing. Here are a few pictures from our recent trip to Houston to drop off the boxes.
